Fundraising for Glenayre’s Odyssey of the Mind team
As some of you may already know, our daughter participates in Odyssey of the Mind (OOTM), a creative problem-solving extracurricular program wherein students work in teams on short and long term problems to develop their creative, social, and cognitive skills. Though there are coaches, the kids are 100% responsible for brainstorming, creativity, problem-solving, and thinking outside the box to come up with solutions to challenges, build structures, write scripts, source raw materials, and so much more – it’s incredible!!
Odyssey of the Mind BC Provincial Competition.
It is a school based activity and I, Jennifer, have the honour of co-coaching these astounding kids. On Saturday April 16, our amazing team, representing grades 3-5 at Ecole Glenayre Elementary School here in Port Moody, participated at the OOTM BC Provincial Competition. They won a Gold Medal, qualifying us to represent Port Moody, BC, and Canada at World Finals! This competition, being held in Ames, Iowa, from May 25-29, 2016, hosts over 15,000 students from 24 countries! It is like a school “Olympics” for kids and we are immensely proud of our team!
On April 23 and April 30, we went around to some local Port Moody businesses to ask for support and the reception the kids received was heartwarming!
Then, and since, businesses and professionals who have donated so far from across the Tri-Cities include:
- Brown’s Socialhouse
- Eden Automotive
- Finger Food Studios
- Hallmark Cleaners
- Inlet Seafoods
- John Grasty and Jessica Chen-Sargent, realtors
- La Boutique Consignment
- Leaders Insurance
- Mint Dental
- Newport Village Animal Hospital
- Nicolelina’s Café
- Salt Cave Wellness
- Wish on a Star
We have also received personal donations for which we are extremely grateful!
Our kids have the opportunity to represent Port Moody, BC, and Canada on a World stage! This event may be a once in a lifetime possibility for some of these kids. Imagine, attending the school “Olympics”!!
We still have a long way to go raising funds, however, so please lend us your support. We have sponsorship opportunities available, too! Because the CPSS is a registered charity, not only can you feel good knowing that you are helping these kids have one of the most remarkable experiences of their lives, you also get a tax receipt!
Your donation will be earmarked to support our 5 kids’ and 2 coaches’ flights, accommodations, and food (which will cost us upwards of $12,000). Please contact us to donate (personal and/or business donations accepted) or even to discuss larger sponsorship (we’ll put your logo on our t-shirts!) and support these bright and creative kids in their amazing adventure!
Thank you so much for your support!!
